Against the Idols of the Age

Postby Alex on Sat Feb 23, 2008 6:04 am

The spurious intellectual grounds on which white civilization is being transformed by cultural engineers, are investigated by David Stove in his book, Against the Idols of the Age. (A new edition is edited and has an introduction by Roger Kimball)

The works of Stove, an Australian philosopher who died in 1994, are anathema to the liberal academics who determine the college curriculum in the humanities.

Here's an excellent commentary on some of Stove's ideas - with particular reference to Against the Idols of the Age.

If you don't know about it, the blog to which I've given a link provides much well-written and penetrating criticism of "the way we live now". Its goals are described as follows:

This blog’s mission is to provide you with discussion and ideas on one of the foremost issues of our day: the unraveling of Western civilization under the weight of attacks on its very foundations. When you consider the impact of post-modernism, cultural diversity, deconstructionism, confused gender roles, and contemporary art, it would seem that our civilization has gone AWOL.

We seek to document this cultural decline and to probe the avenues to an eventual renaissance. Please help us in our quest by joining the discussions.

PS. I'm not grinding an axe: I only read and comment at the blog occasionally.
